Between Earth and Mars
Tyr, the Norse god who maintains world order, is associated with Mars. Olivier Mory has chosen to place different displays on this hand-wound model with a 42-hour power reserve, indicated by a rotating hourglass.
Thus at 3 o'clock, in addition to local time, a view of the Earth in Al Biruni projection (seen from the North Pole, with equidistant meridians) allows the time to be seen anywhere on Earth at a glance. The solar and lunar glyphs show the meridians passing at noon and midnight in real time. At 9 o'clock, the small seconds hand counts the time at 2.5Hz. At 6 o'clock, an optional counter in the form of a rotating clepsydra fills and empties to indicate the winding status of the barrel throughout its 42-hour power reserve. Finally, at 12 o'clock, there is a rare display that combines the 24-hour time as well as day and night, calculated... for Mars.
A technical curiosity, this display allows those who use it to know precisely when to send communications towards our red neighbor in order to guarantee good reception. Indeed, if it is night on Mars, it is because the latter "turns its back" to the Sun (and to the Earth) and the radio waves coming from our world will not reach the targeted surface.
