The history of the brand
Founded in 1846 in Bristol by the young watchmaker Edwin Fear, Fears is one of the oldest family-owned watchmaking houses in the United Kingdom. Passed down through six generations, the brand embodies a rare balance between heritage and modernity. Closed in 1976, it was reborn in 2016 under the leadership of Nicholas Bowman-Scargill, a direct descendant of the founder.
Since then, Fears has paid homage to its past while moving forward with ambition: in 2021, it celebrated its 175th anniversary with the Archival 1930 , a reinterpretation of an Art Deco model. In 2022, it moved its headquarters back to Bristol, and in 2023, it unveiled two strong pieces: the Alliance 01 , in collaboration with Christopher Ward, and the Brunswick Au , in solid gold, launched at the coronation of King Charles III.
Fears thus continues to promote British watchmaking, combining artisanal excellence and contemporary vision.
